Artificial intelligence is reshaping how people find, use, and act on health information. For patient organizations, attention has largely focused on how AI can support workflows, from drafting content to synthesizing insights.

But AI is creating another challenge: ensuring trusted information can still be found, understood, and accurately represented as AI systems increasingly sit between patient organizations and the people they serve.

Patient search behavior is already changing. In a March 2026 KFF poll, 32% of US adults said they had used AI tools for health information or advice in the past year, most often to get quick answers. Many still turn to their healthcare providers (80%) and search engines (68%), and some also follow up with a provider afterward. But now, the first answer a patient sees online is often generated by AI.

Health charities in the UK are already reporting significant changes in website traffic as Google’s AI answers have rolled out. Blood Cancer UK reported declines of up to 53% on some condition-specific pages, while The Brain Tumour Charity reported an overall traffic decline of approximately 27%.

As search engines evolve into answer engines, discoverability is changing. Google says its AI Overviews now have more than 2.5 billion monthly active users. Creating credible information and making it available online is no longer enough. Organizations also need to consider how their content is structured, connected, and maintained for an information environment increasingly shaped by AI.

Envision helps patient organizations and life sciences companies improve how their trusted information is discovered and represented by AI systems.

We start by auditing how the organization appears in AI-generated answers, identifying content and source gaps, implementing improvements across owned and earned channels, and monitoring accuracy and visibility over time.

By combining scientific and medical communications expertise with content strategy, GEO, AI-enabled technology, and connected data, we help make credible information easier to find, understand, and use.
